Our Studio Policies
Welcome to Riverdale Flip & Tumble! 🤸
Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where children can build confidence, develop gymnastics skills, and have fun.
Please review our Studio Policies prior to registering for any classes or programs. If you have questions or are unsure which program is the best fit for your child, please email our team — we're always happy to help!
We strive to:
-
Foster confidence, resilience, and teamwork in every gymnast.
-
Emphasize progress over perfection — celebrating effort, growth, and personal achievement.
-
Provide high-quality instruction focused on proper technique, safety, and fun.
-
Encourage sportsmanship, respect, and kindness among gymnasts, coaches, and families.
-
Inspire a lifelong love for movement and physical fitness.
-
• No food or drinks are permitted on the gymnastics floor.
• Parents/guardians may not use gymnastics equipment.
• Please respect our equipment and help keep the studio clean.
• Guest siblings may not participate in classes.
• If you need to bring an additional child due to a childcare conflict, please contact our office in advance.Thank you for helping us keep Riverdale Flip & Tumble safe, welcoming, and fun for everyone! 💛
At Riverdale Flip & Tumble, safety is our number one priority. Gymnastics is an exciting and challenging sport, and following these guidelines helps keep everyone safe, confident, and ready to learn.
-
Students must be under the direct supervision of a coach while in the training area.
-
Students are expected to follow coach instructions and participate safely and respectfully within their group.
-
A warm-up and stretching period is included at the beginning of each class or training session.
-
Equipment may only be used for its intended purpose and under coach supervision.
-
Any injury, pain, or discomfort must be reported to a coach immediately.
-
First aid supplies are maintained on-site, and staff will follow appropriate emergency procedures when required.
-
Parents/guardians will be contacted promptly if an injury or situation requires their attention.
-
Tenured staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR.
For the safety of everyone in the gym, behaviour or participation that creates an ongoing safety risk to the child, other athletes, or our staff may require us to reassess whether the current group program is an appropriate fit.
Safety is a shared responsibility — when athletes, families, and coaches work together, we can maintain a safe and positive environment for everyone.
-
-
Children should wear comfortable, fitted athletic clothing that allows them to move safely.
-
Leotards, leggings, athletic shorts, and fitted T-shirts are great options. Grip socks are recommended, and bare-foot is also acceptable.
-
Long hair must be tied back and jewelry must be removed before class. Please no hoop earrings, necklaces, watches, etc.
-
Our coach-to-student ratio is 1:6 or 1:8, depending on the age and skill level of the cohort.
Our recreational group programs are not designed to provide continuous 1:1 supervision. If your child requires 1:1 attention or additional support to participate safely, please email us prior to registration so we can discuss the most appropriate class, private lesson, or programming option.
Children must be able to participate safely within the structure and supervision ratio of their assigned group. If a child's needs require a level of supervision that cannot safely be provided within our group setting, we may determine that an alternative program or private lesson is more appropriate.
Children participating in drop-off classes and camps must be fully potty trained and able to use the washroom independently.
As Riverdale Flip & Tumble is a recreational gymnastics facility and not a licensed childcare centre, personal toileting and bathroom care are not within the scope of care our programs or staff are equipped to provide.
Our staff can direct children to the washroom and provide verbal reminders when needed; however, we are unable to provide hands-on toileting assistance, changing, wiping, or other personal bathroom care.
Maintaining appropriate staff supervision on the gymnastics floor is essential for everyone's safety. Having a coach leave their assigned group to provide hands-on bathroom assistance impacts our ability to safely supervise the other children actively participating in gymnastics.
If a child has a bathroom accident and requires hands-on assistance or changing, a parent or guardian will be contacted and will need to come to the studio to assist their child.
To maintain a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment for all of our little gymnasts, Parent/Child classes are limited to one participating adult per registered child.
As a boutique gymnastics studio, we have limited floor space and must carefully manage the number of people in the gym at one time. Each registered child may therefore attend with one parent, guardian, or caregiver only.
We are unable to accommodate two adults per child, additional family members, siblings, or guests inside the gym during Parent/Child classes. We kindly ask families to plan which adult will participate before arriving.
The participating adult is welcome to change from week to week — for example, Mom may attend one week and Dad, a grandparent, or another caregiver may attend the next!
Keeping our classes to one adult per child allows everyone to move safely through the gym, gives children plenty of space to participate, and helps our coaches provide the best possible class experience.
Thank you for helping us keep our Parent/Child classes safe, spacious, and enjoyable for everyone!
If you would like both parents to attend, our sister gym, Riverdale Gymnastics, is able to accommodate this. You can register directly through their website here: https://www.riverdalegymnastics.ca/
We completely understand wanting to see how your child is doing and how their gymnastics class is conducted, especially when they are attending for the first time!
As a boutique gymnastics studio, we have limited space and carefully manage the number of people in the gym at one time. For this reason, our drop-off classes are structured for participating students and coaches only, and parents/guardians are not permitted to stay inside the gym to observe classes.
To ensure consistency for all families, we are unable to make individual exceptions to this policy.
In addition, children tend to settle into class, engage with their coaches, build independence, and retain gymnastics skills more effectively when parents are not observing from inside the gym.
Our coaches are experienced in helping children transition into a new class environment and will encourage your child to participate at their own pace. If your child is having significant difficulty settling within the first 10–15 minutes, we will contact you right away.
Our goal is always for your child’s transition into gymnastics to be a positive and comfortable experience.
Want to see their progress? After your child’s first 3 weeks of classes, parents are welcome to email us and request a short video of their child during class. Our team will do our best to capture a video during an upcoming class and email it to you.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, focused, and positive learning environment for all of our gymnasts! 🤸
Yes! We love giving families the opportunity to see what their gymnasts have been working on throughout the session.
Parent Showcases are offered during our Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions only.
We DO NOT offer Parent Showcases during our Summer session.
We DO NOT offer Parent Showcases for our afterschool program, which includes our 4-5 pm classes, 4-5:30 pm classes and 5-6 pm classes.
For select eligible programs, we offer a Parent Showcase during the final class of the session, where one parent/guardian per child is invited into the gym to watch.
Parent Showcases are offered for the following classes:
-
Monday–Friday: 6:00–7:00 PM classes
-
Tumbling: Select classes
-
Saturday & Sunday: 10:30–11:30 AM and 11:30 AM–12:30 PM classes
-
Saturday: 12:00–1:30 PM and 1:00–2:30 PM classes
-
Pre-Competitive: Eligible classes
Due to the size and capacity of our boutique studio, showcase attendance is limited to one parent/guardian per participating child. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate additional adults, siblings, or other guests.
Families enrolled in an eligible class will receive additional information about their Parent Showcase toward the end of the session.
Please note: Parent Showcases are not offered for every class or program and are not offered during the Summer session. If your child’s class is not eligible for a showcase, their final class will run as a regular gymnastics class.
